From 1923 onwards Mona Chandravati Gupta was fired by a great zeal to work for women. She was deeply conscious that learning is a life long process of keeping abreast with change. She was aware of the leadership qualities of women and resolved to do something whereby women awakened to their hidden potential. Thus, in 1931, she founded the ‘Zenana Park League’. In 1936 this body was registered as the ‘Women’s Social Service League’.

In 1945 “Women’s Academy” was established with the goal of imparting quality education to women. When India gained Independence in 1947, the ‘Women’s Social Service League’ and ‘Women’s Academy’ were amalgamated into a single body which was named Nari Sewa Samiti, In accordance with the vision of the founder and mentor, integrated education, technical and vocational training and social welfare programmes all came within the purview of Nari Sewa Samiti. Nari Sewa Samiti was the umbrella body for imparting education at the primary and the secondary level by Bal Shiksha Niketan and Nari Shiksha Niketan Inter College, respectively. The motto of Nari Sewa Samiti, is ‘prem’.

On July 16th 1963, Nari Shiksha Niketan Degree College, affiliated to the University of Lucknow, was established. At the time the Degree College was established only two other women’s colleges of Lucknow offered Science courses. Over the years the number of applicants for admission to B.Sc. increased rapidly. To cater to the needs of the Science faculty an independent Science block was constructed and inaugurated on 8th November, 1970. In 1994, M.A. classes in Hindi were started. With this the stature of the college grew to the post- graduate level. Then in the year 2000 a new faculty of Commerce was set-up under the self-financing scheme of the University.

Nari Shiksha Niketan PG College strives to nurture the students to become self reliant, socially responsible, and burn with a fierce desire to study and deepen their knowledge, so that once they leave the portals of the institution they emerge as women of great strength, empowered to overcome all personal hardships and live a life filled with hope and deep respect for humanity.
The college strives to make the motto of its parent body, Nari Sewa Samiti, a part of its functioning. An effort is made to build a spirit of shared humanity in the staff and students so that a sense of universal responsibility can be cultivated.
